When you come to downtown Alva, Oklahoma, on horseback, this is where you tie up. Right across from the bank. Yes, that is its original purpose.
Nearby Waynoka, Oklahoma, has a row of three of these rings in their downtown sidewalk. All will likely be lost over the next couple of years as the sidewalks are scheduled to be replaced in Alva and Waynoka.
I have always loved those old horse rings. It will be sad to see the remainder go.
ReplyDeleteDo you think maybe the CofC or the City would try to take up the whole ring section & sell them?
That's a good idea, but I haven't heard anyone mention it. I'll suggest it in Waynoka, but you might forward the idea to the Alva city folks.
ReplyDeleteI love the photo. I love the rings. I just talked with the visitors center there, who say it could be eight to ten years before they're gone. If they go at all! (Thankfully.)
ReplyDeleteGreat blog.
Thanks for stopping by, Robert. I'm betting both cities will find a way to retain them, even when the projects eventually come to pass.
