At the beginning of gardening season, Joe just picked up the wrong tomato plant at the store. He doesn't like cherry tomatoes; not enough flavor. So he planted it off to the side, as an afterthought.
All the "chosen" tomato plants produced precious little, and died early. But off to the side, this one stayed alive and now, late into October, it's producing. I just stood outside picking tomatoes until my hands were cold. And there are dozens and dozens of tomatoes and blooms still to come.
And both of us are enjoying some very tasty, tiny tomatoes, in October, from the plant he just threw away.
